Session 33: Looking to the future

It’s hard to believe that we are approaching the last stages of the Go_Girl 2017-18 program! The time has flown by and so much has been achieved. However, we all want to make sure that the progress that has been made is sustainable once the official sessions end. Applying and securing a job is a goal that many of the group would like to make a reality in the coming months. So we decided that today’s session would tackle interview skills, as well as continuing with our projects.

Interviewing for a position can be a hugely daunting experience. The Go_Girl team all had stories and tips to share about how best to approach the challenge. We talked about what to include in a cover letter, and how to prepare for the big day. A survey by the site totaljobs found that people’s most feared interview questions include ‘Why should we hire you?’, ‘Tell me about yourself’, and ‘What is your biggest weakness?’. We went through how to answer these kinds of queries. Most importantly of all, don’t forget to breathe and take your time. It isn’t a weakness to show that you are thinking through the question – there’s no need to rush to fill the space.
